Jeremy Grey: What do you like better, Christmas or Wedding Season? (raises hand)
John Beckwith: Mr. Grey?
Jeremy Grey: Yes. The answer would be, um, Wedding Season?
John Beckwith: Bingo!

An incredible thing starts to happen in life when you reach your mid- to late- twenties, and it's what I lovingly refer to as "The Wedding Trail." One by one, all of your friends start getting married, at a very frequent, and somewhat alarming rate.

And you know what? I dig it. I LOVE weddings. I love everything about them: The food, the dancing, the booze, the dressing up, the getting together with all of your friends - It doesn't get much better.

This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend a wedding in Houston of a friend I grew up with, Carla. At 10 years old, Carla and I spent countless hours playing Mall Madness and "broadcasting" our own radio stations, which we (obviously) recorded onto cassette tapes. Fast forward 18 (EIGHTEEN?!) years, and one of us is getting married, while the other is still playing Mall Madness and broadcasting radio stations onto cassette tapes. I let you guess who the latter is.

Carla and her now-husband Jeff had their ceremony and reception uptown at the Courtyard on St. James Place. And it was absolutely lovely.

The above shot was taken outside the Courtyard where we gathered to send the bride and groom off in style, sparklers in tow. Isn't the lighting and ivy simply dreamy?

Dinner, drinks, photo booth fun, and dancing were held inside (thankfully, as it had been *roughly* 142 degrees outside earlier) prior to the sendoff. And as far as weddings go, this food was top notch.

It was served buffet style, so try not to judge me too harshly on my lackluster plating skills. Or the fact that I *may* have inhaled that entire mound of food by myself. Plus two pieces of cake. Uhh, I mean, I shared it all with my boyfriend obviously...

Regardless, it was delicious.

Which brings me to my main point: If the food and the atmosphere were this great for the wedding on Sunday night, I have a hunch they're also fantastic during lunchtime. The Courtyard is open Monday - Friday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm for lunch during the week.

I have heard that after many years of business the venue is unfortunately going to be torn down "soon" (though I don't know how soon), so I definitely recommend getting there ASAP to see this dreamy, quaint, magical spot. You definitely won't regret it - Better late than never!

John Beckwith: Sorry I'm late.
Jeremy Grey: No problem.
John Beckwith: I'm sorry I called you white trash.
Jeremy Grey: Apology accepted.
John Beckwith: And I'm sorry I called you hillbilly. I don't even know what that means.
Jeremy Grey: John, it's OK. Do you mind if I get married now?

Enjoy!
