Let's go to the Hill Country, shall we?
^ (umm, how hard am I kicking myself that I missed that Stone Temples Pilot tribute though?)
Jon and I both had off work on Good Friday, so we decided to visit our close friends Mark and Kelly for the weekend. You may recall that these two lovebirds got married last October, and we had a wonderful time celebrating with them! Our trip to see them in March was an awesome couple of days (as it always is when we go up there to visit them), so I'd like to share some photos of my weekend of food and fun with you!
Jon and I hit the road early on Friday morning and stopped by Torchy's at their restaurant located in the Heights on our way out for some breakfast tacos. When we arrived at Mark and Kelly's house, which is located just outside of San Antonio, we headed out to New Braunfels for lunch at The Phoenix Saloon in New Braunfels.
This "Could you be any more wonderfully charming and Texan?" restaurant/bar had a vegan chili that was hearty and WONDERFUL. I also ordered some fantastically seasoned sweet potato fries for good measure. The food got high marks from everyone at the table, including the classic frito pie Kelly ordered.
After that, we walked over to 2Tarts, an adorable bakery that - I was happy to learn - had vegan lemon cupcakes!
The cupcake was super moist and dense, and certainly had a different consistency than what I was used to. It had a wonderful flavor, and I definitely dug it!
After that, we popped over to a really cool outdoor bar in New Braunfels called Pour Haus.
Kelly and I swung on the swings for a bit, #natch.
(Those women at the swings in the photo aren't us, btw. I realized it may have seemed that way based on my caption.)
Then we bought groceries to grill out on their patio for dinner, which was lovely.
On Saturday morning, we stopped by the beyond-cute Emily's Place for some pastries and coffee (only coffee for me since I was still eating vegan and had brought a protein bar along).
Don't you just want to grab the nearest person and marry them in front of those doors right now?!
I mean, really.
After that, we grabbed food from H-E-B to enjoy a picnic lunch at our all-time favorite winery ever, La Cruz de Comal, located in Canyon Lake.
Yes, it really is that beautiful!
Once we were finished eating our food and drinking our wine, we headed into San Antonio. Our first stop was The Friendly Spot, a super cool outdoor bar/restaurant, located on San Antonio's quirky, hipster, and happenin' South Alamo Street.
Once we had been there for a while, soaking in the beautiful weather and fun scene, we walked just across the street to the restaurant Hot Joy for dinner. The food there was so incredible, it's getting it's own blog post - so more on that later!
After dinner, while driving from San Antonio back to Mark and Kelly's house, we took a detour and partook in everyone's favorite past time - Bingo!
It was a fantastic weekend of beautiful weather, fun times with great friends, and fabulous food in San Antonio - Thanks for following along!
